Many Finns fear war in Ukraine could escalate into wider European war
The poll also showed growing public confidence in NATO’s security guarantees. Confidence in the alliance’s deterrence capabilities rose to 38% from 32% earlier this year, while the proportion of skeptics declined from 38% to 32%. Analysts attribute the increase in trust partly to concerns over leadership changes in the U.S., including Donald Trump’s return to the presidency earlier this year.
Nearly half of respondents (46%) said they fully or somewhat fear that the Ukraine conflict could expand into a major European war. About one-third disagreed, and roughly one-fifth were unsure.
The survey highlighted differences in perception across demographics: women expressed greater concern than men (57% vs. 37%), and fear of escalation was more pronounced among respondents with lower educational attainment.
