Twin Earthquakes Rattle Italy's Ravenna

(MENAFN) Italy's Ravenna province experienced two consecutive seismic events measuring 4.3 and 4.1 magnitudes Tuesday morning, triggering emergency rail shutdowns and evacuations, though initial assessments revealed no destruction, a news agency confirmed.

The initial tremor, registering 4.3 magnitude, hit at 9:27 a.m. local time (0827GMT), with its epicenter positioned near Russi town at 23 kilometers (14 miles) depth, Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) reported.

A secondary 4.1 magnitude shock struck two minutes afterward, centered near Faenza, also within Ravenna province, merely kilometers from the initial epicenter location.

The seismic activity reverberated throughout the broader Romagna region, sparking panic as numerous residents evacuated residences, educational facilities, and offices as preventive measures.

Regional officials confirmed zero immediate casualty or infrastructure damage reports.

Train operations across portions of the territory underwent temporary suspension for technical examinations, with rail traffic in impacted zones halted pending comprehensive safety verification completion.

Officials stated surveillance and security evaluations remain ongoing throughout affected territories.
