Norway's King Harald V Falls Ill in Spain’s Tenerife

(MENAFN) Norway's King Harald V has been admitted to a hospital in Tenerife, Spain, the Royal House of Norway announced Tuesday.

"His Majesty the King (Harald V) was admitted this evening to Hospital Universitario Hospiten Sur in Tenerife," the palace said.

The 89-year-old monarch is receiving treatment for an infection and dehydration, with the palace describing his current condition as "good." The Royal House also confirmed that the King's personal physician is en route to Tenerife to support the local medical team.

King Harald and Queen Sonja had been on the Canary Island for a private winter holiday when the King required medical attention. The palace did not indicate when the monarch might be discharged or return to Norway.

Harald V has held the Norwegian throne since 1991, making his one of Europe's longest-reigning monarchies.
